Wear a Scent at Work?
When lunch hits at the hamburger restaurant it's time to fire up the McRib Sauce Cauldron. The smell is pretty overwhelming, and not in a good way. The entire restaurant starts to reek of a Texas BBQ science experiment, an elixir of industrial food production. It’s not awful, but it’s not nice. When a co-worker with a distinct scent walks by it’s the odor equivalent of finding a nice patch of shade in the park on a hot summer day.
For the first time it's time to consider wearing a scent at work.
And I've done the homework. Earlier this year I worked with my friend Chloe Coover to find a signature scent for KmikeyM. Chloe is the co-host of Nose Candy, a perfume podcast, and she helped me come up with some options I was planning to put to a shareholder vote. The only problem was that there was a very clear winner.
Of the seven samples I tested the only one that worked was Copper from Comme des Garçons. Chloe’s notes for this scent, in relation to KmikeyM, were, "Cold, metallic, and reminiscent of coins, Comme Des Garçon’s Copper was the first fragrance that came to mind when undertaking this project. Masculine and grassy, in addition to its resemblance to currency."
Now I work with coins everyday! What could be more perfect? Of course I've also worked in the past with people who were very senstitive to smells (obviously not in the proximity of roasting McRib juice), so maybe it's safer to just remain "clean" and scentless?

what happens if everyone hates it? I'm voting yes hoping that if it tortures you or your coworkers you'll stop without having to put up another vote to do so.
I mostly hate it when people wear perfumes or scents around me all day, but I'm not around you all the time.
I sorta wish I could smell it before I vote.
What does Kathryn think?
Kathryn likes it! That is important. More info here: https://news.kmikeym.com/to-smell-or-not-to-smell/
As a shareholder, I'd be interested in a blog post with a short list of the positive and negative aspects for each occupation you have experienced in your life
@kc - that's super interesting but it would be hard to make it a short list! ;)
I'm not a fan of colognes, so I hope you go mild. When I taught in Saudi Arabia and Oman, some of the students went way overboard. So did a lot of the men when I was in the mall hanging out at the Cinnabons.

That subtle whiff of a nice cologne in the midst of a busy burger joint; dirty dishwater, unwashed masses, overwhelming stench of condiments...what a joy that would be. Absolutely wear cologne to work!
